Race for the Cure®
Fundraising Program and Pink Honor Roll
Go the extra mile
Unlike other 5k events, The Komen Race for the Cure does not require you to raise money in order to participate – all you have to do is register. However, registration fees get us to the start line but individual fund raising is what gets us to the cure! You can help raise additional funds to fight breast cancer by collecting tax-deductible donations from family, friends, neighbors and colleagues. If every participant collected $10 from 10 friends, we could raise over $4 million!
As one participant said “I decided just to send ONE email to all of my friends and within 24 hours they had donated more than $1,500!” You don’t need to be a fund raising expert to be successful at it – you just need the desire to stand up to breast cancer and make a difference!
Remember, every dollar, no matter how small, makes a difference in finding the cures for breast cancer.

- An individual or team captain will only be eligible to win one pre-Race incentive prize. If the top fund raiser at the time is a previous winner, the prize will be awarded to the next highest fund raiser.
- To be eligible for post Race incentive prizes, you may register online or on paper but all donations must be made online and/or be received in the Komen office along with a fully completed fund raising form. Donations will be accepted until May 14th, 2010.
Collecting Donations
Online DonationsWhen you register for the Race online, your own personal webpage is automatically created. You can upload your own photo and tell your own story about why you are participating in the Race. You can send emails from your webpage to friends, colleagues and family asking them to sponsor you. All they have to do is click on the link in your email. What could be easier! Our online tools allow you to support the cause with just a few clicks of the mouse.
Paper DonationsWhile we strongly encourage everyone to use the online donation program, some people will prefer to donate by cash or check. We will gladly accept donations in any form; however, if you are trying to compete for a pledge program prize, we need your help to ensure that we can track the funds you work so hard to raise.
Donations by check or cash will be considered for individual prize eligibility as long as we receive them in a pledge envelope with an official pledge form. You may collect your donations and turn them in at one time or, if you collect a large number of gifts early in the Race season, go ahead and turn them in with the appropriate forms. We will add your pledge envelope totals to any online donations to arrive at the total funds you raised.
In order to track your progress, you can post your check/cash donations by adding them to your online personal webpage. New this year - when we receive your completed Fund Raising form along with the checks/cash, we will confirm these cash/check donations. Remember, we can track online donations by both individual and by team.
You can turn in your donation envelope at the warehouse during packet pickup week or at the Pledges and Donations tent on Race day. If you prefer, you can mail your pledge envelope to the address below. Do not send cash in the mail!

Deadline for Turning in Pledges
New this year – In order to give you more time to raise funds, we will count all donations received before May 14th (one month following the Race) toward incentive prizes and Pink Honor Roll membership. We gladly accept donations at any time but those received after May 14th will not count toward the fund raising program prizes. And don’t forget that all donations must be accompanied by a Fund Raising Form. Please note Race entry forms and fees can NOT be sent in the same envelope with Pledge Donationsthey MUST be sent separately.
Does your company have a matching gift program?
Check to see if your company has a matching gift program. If they do, make sure you take advantage of it to increase the amount you raise. Let others know about this option and have them check with their companies. If your company has a matching program, obtain the necessary paperwork from them, complete the form and include it with your pledge envelope. Komen will submit the form and give you credit for the matching gift. Please be sure that your name is on the Match Form so that you can get the appropriate credit.
Thanking your donors and supporters
It is important that you thank each and every individual that supports your fund raising efforts. Individuals that make a donation online will receive an electronic thank you message. Komen will provide a receipt for cash and will send a thank you letter to any donor who makes a gift of $100 or more. Unfortunately, with the volume of gifts received for the Race, we cannot acknowledge each and every gift.
Each year, Komen honors the top 100 individual fund raisers by making them members of the prestigious Pink Honor Roll. Members will be invited to a special reception in their honor, showered with wonderful gifts and be given a special t-shirt emblazoned with the names of the Pink Honor Roll members on it.
