To eradicate breast cancer through research, education, screening and treatment

Host a Fundraising Event

We are honored that so many members of our community want to organize an event or promotion to raise funds to benefit Komen and the fight to end breast cancer.  Komen is a grassroots organization and relies on the generosity of these individuals and companies throughout the year.

While our resources are very limited, we are committed to doing everything to make the process as simple as possible and ensure that your event or promotion is successful.  First, we ask that you read through the following options and attached guidelines.  Your first decision is whether to organize an event from the “ground up” or take on one of Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s “canned” programs.

Next, you then must decide if it’s important for you to use Komen’s name in your promotion as this does entail some additional paperwork.   Susan G. Komen for the Cure has an excellent reputation and a well-known name.  We understand the value of that name to your organization, business or event and we hope that you appreciate that our guidelines aim to preserve the integrity and value of our name.

Pre-planned programs

You may want to consider one of the many “programs in a box” such Rally for a Cure, Bowl for a Cure, Cook for a Cure or Passionately Pink for a Cure.  These are well established programs with planning tools included for golf, tennis or bowling tournaments, “pink” days at your place of employment or dining events.  Click each website to see if one of these programs is right for you!

Host your own unique event or promotion

Before you continue with your plans, please take a moment to read through our guidelines and application.  If, after reading the guidelines, you are interested in entering into an agreement with Komen Indianapolis, complete and return the application.  We will then draft a letter of agreement which, once signed and insurance certificates obtained if required, will allow you to use Komen’s name in your promotions.  Remember, Komen must review your promotional materials before publication.

If you decide that the size or scope of your event does not warrant the efforts involved in following the guidelines, please consider not using the Komen name/logo and instead use the general statement that “funds raised will go to a local breast health organization” or “breast cancer research and support”.  You may use a general pink ribbon in your promotions as that is not trademarked.  Komen Indianapolis would be happy and grateful to receive any funds raised and would give public recognition for your efforts.

How we can help

While Komen Indianapolis cannot serve on your organizing committee, we will be happy to talk with you about options and ideas for a successful event.  We will include any upcoming events in our monthly electronic newsletter and on the Special Events page of our website.  We will gladly provide educational materials and pink ribbons.  If possible, we will provide volunteers to represent Komen and a guest speaker if requested.   Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with media contacts or refer you to potential sponsors.

Please note that while Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) and Race for the Cure month (April) are very popular times to host such events, our limited staff and volunteer core will be heavily committed during these times and may not be able to provide the same level of support as other times of the year.
