Race for the Cure®

Race Day Information

2010 marks the 19th anniversary of the Indianapolis Race for the Cure®.  The Race is a certified USATF5k (3.1 mile) course with running and walking events for everyone from competitive runners to families.

Where?

The Race is held in downtown Indianapolis and begins at the IUPUI Library on the corner of Blackford and New York Streets (700 block of W. New York Street). 

When?

The 2010 Race will be held Saturday, April 17th.  The day will include opening ceremonies, the annual Pink Parade of breast cancer survivors, a 5k timed competitive run, a 5k non-competitive run/walk and a 1 mile family walk.  

Schedule of events
7:00 – 8:30 a.m. Registration
7:15 a.m.  Survivors meet at the Survivor’s Tent
7:30 – 8:40 a.m. Opening Ceremony, Pink Parade of Survivors & Photo
8:40 a.m. Aerobic Warm-up
9:00 a.m. Competitive 5K Run start
9:10 a.m. Participant 5K Run/Walk start
9:45 a.m. 1-mile Family Walk start

Other Activities?

Participants can browse through the Health Expo visiting the booths of our sponsors and grantees.  They can also SHOP in one of the merchandise tents that will offer the largest collection of pink ribbon merchandise anywhere!

Be sure to check out the new Survivor Village where breast cancer survivors will be welcomed, draped with medals, treated to food and beverages and given a spot to rest for a while!  

Parking?

Parking will be allowed in designated IUPUI parking lots – look for the signs or check the website www.komenindy.org.  Please remember that with more than 40,000 participants expected, traffic will be heavy and parking limited – arrive early to allow plenty of time.  Tune to WNTR 107.9 FM, WZPL 99.5 FM, WXNT 1430 AM, for traffic information and 1610 AM for IUPUI parking updates.

Are pets and strollers allowed?

Pets are not allowed at the Race.  Families are welcome to bring children in strollers but are asked to participate in the less congested one mile family walk.

Registration and donations?

Individuals will be able to register on Race day morning from 7am – 8:30am.  Look for the Registration tent. New this year -  Individuals who have pre-registered will not be able to pick up their t-shirts on Race day.  They will be mailed. 

Donations will be accepted on Race Day at the Pledges and Donations tent.  Receipts will be issued for cash donations.  Thank you letters will be mailed at a later date for all donations of $100 or more.  For smaller donations, your cancelled check can serve as a receipt.  Please make your check or money order payable to Komen Indianapolis Race for the Cure. 

Will Competitive Runners Receive Prizes?

Awards will be mailed for the following:
* Top 3 male & female runners
* Top 3 breast cancer survivors
* Master Survivor
* Senior Survivor
The top 3 male and female finishers in each age division will also receive special recognition.  No awards will be given for the 1 Mile Family Walk or 5K Walk.
