Komen Central Indiana awarded its first grant in 1992 to Little Red Door Cancer Agency, after the first Race for the Cure raised $50,000.00. The local affiliate serves 21 counties in Central Indiana including Bartholomew, Boone, Brown, Clinton, Decatur, Delaware, Grant, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Henry, Howard, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Morgan, Rush, Shelby, Tippecanoe and Tipton counties.
Organizations are able to submit an application once a year. Grants are awarded to not for profit organizations within the affiliate service area after a peer review panel reviews, scores and votes on the project, ensuring they are aligned with the priorities identified though the Community Profile, a comprehensive needs assessment, completed biannually. Grantees are then required to submit quarterly grant reports and budgets to ensure they are aligned with their objectives and the Komen Mission. Site visits are performed yearly and the Grants & Education Coordinator maintains constant contact and communication ensuring successful completion of the program
