Your Support Makes An Impact In Central Indiana

Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is the nation’s largest private source of funding for breast cancer research and community outreach programs.

In 2012, the Central Indiana Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is granting $1.6 million to 15 local breast health programs and contributing more than $500,000 to research for the causes, improved treatments and cures for breast cancer. These grants are funded with a portion of the proceeds generated by the Komen Central Indiana Race for the Cure® and other fundraising events throughout the year.

We received 26 applications totaling $2.2 million in requested funds to provide services in our 21-county service area. The selection committee consisted of 14 community members who prioritized the applicant programs based on the needs outlined in the most recent community needs assessment, which is conducted biannually. To see breast health statistics in Central Indiana – including areas with highest incidence and mortality rates or the lowest employment or insurance rates – see our 2011 Community Profile: http://www.komenindy.org/articles/central-indiana-community-needs-action-plan-for-2011-2013/

Grant funds cover screenings (clinical breast exams and mammograms), diagnostics (MRIs, biopsies, ultrasounds), treatment assistance, health care navigation, medication assistance and support services such as transportation, child care, wigs, prosthetics and whatever else is needed to make sure patients can complete treatment with the support they need. If a resident lives in Komen Central Indiana’s 21-county service area and is in need of breast health assistance, she or he can contact the nearest grant recipient listed below to find local resources.
