The improving weather in central Indiana is a sure sign that one of Indianapolis’ signature events is quickly approaching. Kroger is proud to continue its long-standing support of the Komen Central Indiana Race for the Cure as it celebrates its 20th Anniversary.
As a national sponsor for the Race for the Cure, Kroger contributes thousands of hours of volunteer time and millions of dollars to breast cancer research.
Here in Indianapolis, we look forward to supporting our Kroger associates who are survivors as well as our customers participating this year.
Locally, Kroger Central Division’s commitment of dollars to fight breast cancer will pass $100,000 in 2011.
It is part of our culture to not only financially support worthy causes like the Race for the Cure, but also to devote countless hours from Kroger associates, our vendor partners like Yoplait, and community organizations who gladly volunteer to make this event a true success.
Once again our partner school, IPS School 46, is working side by side with us to make sure the Race participants receive 40,000 bags of healthy, nutritious food donated by Kroger. Our associates then distribute those snacks to the thousands of Race participants after the event.
Thanks to our Kroger’s Crossroads Dairy here in Indianapolis, Kroger is providing water stations near the finish line and along the course. In addition, Crossroads Dairy is joining Kroger to provide chocolate milk to all race participants after they cross the finish line. And Kroger pharmacists have teamed up with Community Health’s wellness staff to man an information booth to highlight pro-active wellness efforts.
We realize not all Kroger associates are able to attend due to their responsibilities serving customers – so during the event our associates have the option to donate to Susan G. Komen in exchange for a “Race for the Cure” T-shirt and wear it in their Kroger store on race day as a show of support. Our passion and commitment to the community play a vital role in our drive to support Komen Indy.
We are proud of our relationship with the Komen Central Indiana Race for the Cure and look forward to seeing everyone in pink on April 16th!
