2011 Pink Honor Roll Members

The Pink Honor Roll consists of the top 100 individual fundraisers for the Central Indiana Race for the Cure®. Combined, this year’s top fundraisers raised nearly $280,000! Their celebration dinner took place on Tuesday, August 30th at the Country Club of Indianapolis.

WTHR’s Angela Cain emceed and highlighted some stories of those in attendance:

• Joanne Scifres, who is an eight-year Stage IV breast cancer survivor and the team captain for Joggin for Jo’s Jugs. Last year, she built a team of 150 and walked to entire Race without every once sitting in her wheelchair.
• Sheri Alexander, who is an eight-year survivor doing everything she can to find a cure so others don’t have to travel the cancer road – especially not her 23-year-old daughter.
• Jenn Lebryk, who walks in memory of her mom who passed away from breast cancer a few days before her high school graduation. She learned she made the Pink Honor Roll on the sixth anniversary of her mother’s passing.
• Beth LaBelle, who lost her mom to breast cancer and wanted to honor her by raising funds for the cure. In this struggling economy, she got creative by starting Babysitting for Boobs so parents can make a donation to her team instead of paying her wages.
• Tommy Rizzi, who walks in honor of his wife, Karyn, who lost her battle to breast cancer less than a year ago.

 Top fundraiser Kim Leonard also took a moment to share her story of survivorship, why she fundraises for the Race, and how her efforts have grown bigger with each year and with each woman in her life who is diagnosed with breast cancer.

“I believe in every penny I raise when I come in contact with a woman who is fighting for her life. I tell my donors it doesn’t matter what size you give – at the end of the day, it makes a really big difference. Hopefully one day all of us can say we were part of finding a cure.”

At the end of the evening, names were drawn for the gift baskets, gift cards and certificates, and everyone receive their custom Pink Honor Roll t-shirt and gift bags.
